Graded Scratch

What is It

Graded Scratch is run over Two Series with each spanning 6 weeks with 3 swims per night.
Swimmers are assigned to a group dependant on the 50m freestyle time, so as to ensure swimmers of similar ability compete against each other.
Points are allocated depending the level of improvement from the last time that swim was attempted in Graded Scratch.

The purpose of the series is to encourage swimmers to improve their times, thus focusing on self improvement.

Rules

  1. Swimmers will be divided into 3 groups according to their best 50m freestyle times from the previous Graded Scratch Series.
  2. If no previous Graded Scratch time is available a confirmed time from the Time Book or District Records will be used to establish a swimmers GROUP ONLY. Points will be awarded as for a new swimmer.
  3. If no previous time can be established a new swimmer will commence in Group 1.
  4. If after swimming in Group 1 the swimmers time indicates that they should be in a higher group they will be moved up, taking their points earned in Group 1 with them.
  5. Boys/Girls Graded Scratch Qualifying Times:
    • GROUP 1 - 44.01 secs. and above
    • GROUP 2 - 36.01 to 44.00 secs.
    • GROUP 3 - 36.00 secs. and below
  6. At the start of the Graded Scratch Series the best times will be based on the previous series..
  7. Points will be scored on Graded Scratch times ONLY.
  8. If a swimmer does not have a previous time in Graded Scratch they will score 5 Points, which is equivalent to equalling their best time.
  9. The point scoring system will be as follows
    • 1 - Point for each event swum.
    • Event Points:
      • O - Points for a disqualification
      • 3 - Points for swimming 1.50 seconds or more slower.
      • 4 - Points for swimming 0.50 - 1.49 seconds slower.
      • 5 - Points for swimming within 0.49 seconds.
      • 6 - Points for swimming 0.50 - 1.49 seconds faster.
      • 7 - Points for swimming 1.50 - 2.49 seconds faster.
      • 8 - Points for swimming 2.50 or more faster.
  10. Where possible swimmers will be rotated through lanes on successive weeks through out the Series.
  11. The One Start Rule shall be used as follows
    1. Groups 1 & 2 - Warning issued
    2. Group 3 - Swimmer Disqualified but allowed to compete in swim
  12. Trophies will be awarded to the first 3 swimmers accumalating the most points in each group, with boys and girls combined.
